Some race recaps

Happy New Years everyone!  My plans were the usual – go to bed, wake up to fireworks, kiss the husband, go back to sleep.  But instead I was up about a half hour before midnight with full body aches… this whole winter break my boys have been kicking around a flu bug, and I guess I was not as immune as I thought.  Then as if the body aches were not enough, I just happened to look outside at the fireworks in time to see our female great pyrenees pup scale the fence and bolt like lightening.  Her dislike for fireworks got her a night sleep indoors – after we caught her.


So while I am not following my plans of running today, here are a few pictures from a couple of my last races. 


I had not ran in over a month and then ran this race. It by far was the best race of the year because it was my friends first and it was local so there were a lot of people I knew! 


B is my halloween junky and zombie lover, so when I signed us up for the zombie run we were all kind of shocked when he freaked!  I ran the entire course with him on my back!!  I got a lot of flack for this picture but seriously you have to know my kid and been there to see the humor that we got out of it.

Team in Training for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

In my last post I said I haven’t been worrying about my weight so much as my training.  Training? Whaaa?

Yes, I have been training with Team in Training (TNT) to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!   What is TNT?   Team In Training (TNT) is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society‘s (LLS) endurance sports training program.  In a nutshell you raise funds for LLS and in return you are given training by coaches to walk/run, hike, cycle, or do a triathlon.  The money raised by TNT goes to help fund research for advance treatments and cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.  The funds also help give education and support to cancer patients and their families.

I am raising money to run the Nike Woman’s San Francisco Half Marathon.  I do need your help!  Please help support me by making a small donation.  Any amount helps!

Weigh In & Backpacking

Happy Monday Y’all!  I am up earlier than usual.  My mom is house sitting my sister’s casa and she has 2 Dr appointments today in Wenatchee so I am going to do the loving daughter bit and drive her there and back, but I have a few things to do before we go so I got up early… but everyone is sleeping and so I have to be quiet so that was basically pointless!  Coffee is made so there is no point in going back to bed 🙂

I took a “pause”:

I know I have been MIA for a while but I am back!  I can’t let summer take over too much right!?!?   First off.  I have changed my weigh in day from Wednesday to Monday.  This helps me stay accountable for the weekends, which lately have been my downfall.  That and ice cream with fresh raspberries from the garden.  So this mornings weigh in was 167.6; I put on 7 lbs but I think some of that may have been muscle because we have been doing a ton of hiking.   Lately I haven’t been worrying so much about my weight, I have just been worrying about training (which I will get to in a bit)  but I can tell when I put on 5 lbs and wasn’t surprised by the number this morning… my knees told me days ago.  So my goal is to loose 8 lbs this month!  Running at 160 lbs is easier than running at 167 lbs that is for sure!

Oval hike:

So last weekend we hiked into West Oval.  It is a 15 mile round trip hike, and it is all UP HILL!  Our plan was to hike in on Saturday and either hike out on Tuesday or Wednesday.  We hiked for hours and the last .25 of a mile was through the snow… wa wa waaaa!  Our clothes were wet so we instantly started a fire to get things dried.  It was chilly and the wind started along with the rain..  and the fish weren’t biting so while Kevin and I were discussing dinner, while the boys were throwing sticks on the fire.  I just happen to glance up from the cook stove to see Sully’s shoe on fire & the sleeves of Blaze’s sweatshirt!!!!  That is devastation in the backwoods folks!   Needless to say we ended up hiking out the next afternoon.

All in all it was a good hike!  The boys loved it, and didn’t complain about the distance or their packs.  Hopefully next time (which will probably be this fall) we can stay longer.

The last time we hiked up there Zion was 1 and a half.


Nothing has changed, he lives to fish!

Apparently hiking is going to be our “thang.”  Before I came along my husband lived in the woods any chance he could get… I took that away from him, and now that the boys are older and enjoy the woods just as much, we will be spending a lot more time in them!


Back with some Virtual Races

I have been MIA the past few weeks.  I am sorry!  I have to admit, posting on this blog keeps me on track so I cannot let life take me off course, because I am not going to lie… I have been a bit off course!I have still been running.  In fact I did a 5K trail run yesterday, and I have a 5k next Saturday as well.  But my eating has been WAY WAY WAY off course and I am bound to get on track this week.

So to catch up on a few things.  Soccer is over!!!!  We survived.   My garden is not 😦  …maybe it is just in that ugly faze, but I swear the weeds are doing awesome!!  I have been playing sergeant mother to 3 baby kittens that were found at work.  They barely had their eyes open and near death and now they are starting to play and are doing great.  We got 20 turkeys and now we only have 11 😦  that was sad & a waste of money….  hmm… guess that gets you caught up in my world!

Yesterdays Race review:

I ran the Mazama 5K.  Mazama is a little town in the Methow Valley in Washington and people from all over the state & Canada came to participate.  It is gorgeous, with tons of places to hike, run, bike ride, and rock climb. Unfortunately, I felt like crap… just like all the stuff I have been shoving in my pie hole this last week.  I seriously even had a hard time enjoying myself I was in such misery.  You know that whole rule – never do anything new on race day?  Yeah, it is a rule for a reason!  A rule in which stubborn Amber learned the hard way.  I already felt like crap, and just before the start of the race I took a “Cliff Shot” that was offered at the start line – never having one before and was curious.  Not even 5 minutes into the run my stomach started burning like I had just took a shot of tequila.  I ran the first mile and a half no problem, just kind of questioning what was going down in my gut.  The mile and a half back I had to walk multiple times due to nausea and a horrific side ache – I haven’t had a side ache in MONTHS!  I pasted through the finish line at 41:18 according to their time.  Blah!  That is horrible.  I hit the truck for some water and was ready to leave ASAP. We stopped in Winthrop, a town a few miles away for breakfast.  The Mazama run offered an all you can eat pancake breakfast, but spending my entire race cursing myself for eating french bead the day before I was not about to go eat pancakes.  At about mile 2 I vowed/promised my stomach that I would get back to my paleo diet immediately!!!  All in all it was a good race, and I hope next year to run the 10K.  Train. Train. Train!

Other Races:

Midsummer Sun Kilomathon via No Heels Just Sneakers.  This is a virtual all month of June race.  You can sign up to do a 5k, 10k or 30k. I signed up to do a 30k.  The cost is $25.00 and you will receive AMAZING bling!

Another race I signed up for is Moon Joggers Voyage to Venus.  This is a year long logging of your running miles in hopes that everyones combined miles will reach the miles to Venus (maybe even back).  Also, each month they offer virtual races that come with BLING & STICKERS!  Added Bonus if you are signed up for the Voyage to Venus you get a 20% discount on virtual races 😉 This is a great motivator and their back story is pretty bitchin’!  Check out their site!

I also decided I really really really want to start training for Iron Girl 2015!  1/3 Mile Swim, 12 Mile Bike Ride, 3 Mile Run.  It will be tough but I like to pretend I’m tough.  I’m not really worried about the running(other than I need to boost up my speed), or the biking, but the swimming will be difficult.  There is no year long pools up here except for at one hotel.. and I doubt they would let me train there.  It just seems so fun & challenging!!!  Thoughts?

I love planing a monthly meal plan and then picking and choosing what to make each week as it seems fit.  Tuesday is going to be a busy busy day, so pulling the already made soup from the freezer is going to be perfect!
